NATIONAL “BRIDGES” TRIENNIAL
THE PATRON OF THIS EXHIBITION IS THE MAYOR OF GABROVO MUNCIPALITY
I. GENERAL PRINCIPLES
1. This National Triennial which takes place in Gabrovo is a contemporary painting exhibition on the topic of BRIDGES.
2. It takes place every three years. Its third edition will be in November 2024.
3. Artists who have agreed to the conditions of the event can take part with the paintings they have created on the topic.
The title points to two aspects of the word “bridge”:
The philosophical aspect – the bridge as an expression of the eternal human desire to overcome, to conquer, to know and to connect. This is a consequence of our aspiration to oppose divisions, borders, barriers and abysses.
The second aspect looks at bridges as one of the most significant facilities built by humans. They are more important and steadier than houses and more sacred than temples because they are more accessible. They belong to everyone /regardless of age, nationality, race, religion/ and are the same for all. They overcome distances and are built where many human needs and fates cross paths.
II. ORGANIZATION
1. The organizers of the National Triennial “BRIDGES” are Hristo Tsokev Art Gallery, Gabrovo Municipality and the Ministry of Culture.
2. The National “BRIDGES” Triennial is held under the patronage of the Mayor of Gabrovo Municipality
3. (1) The organizers, along with representatives of the Bulgarian Artists Association, discuss and agree on all of details regarding the organization and realization of the exhibition.
(2) The operative work is done by Hristo Tsokev Art Gallery.
4. (1)The exhibits and awards are selected and decided on by a 7-member jury appointed by the Mayor of Gabrovo Municipality.
(2) The jury members include one representative of the Ministry of Culture, of Gabrovo Municipality and of Hristo Tsokev Art Gallery and four representatives of the Association of Bulgarian Artists.
(3) The decision of the jury is decided based on a majority vote and cannot be appealed.
(4) A member of the jury cannot be nominated for an award.
5. The exhibition of the National “BRIDGES” Triennial is held in the halls of Hristo Tsokev Art Gallery.
6. The presentation of the exhibition is accompanied by a full catalogue of the participants and their works.
7. The nominated works remain in the fund of Hristo Tsokev Art Gallery.
8. The Triennial is sponsored by the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Bulgaria, Gabrovo Municipality and Hristo Tsokev Art Gallery.
III. AWARDS
1. The nominated candidates who took part in the National Triennial “BRIDGES” in the respective year are given the following awards:
The Gabrovo Municipality Award – 1400 BGN and a certificate, as well as the right to hold an independent exhibition at Hristo Tsokev Art Gallery in the following year.
The Ministry of Culture Award – 1200 BGN and a certificate.
The Union of Bulgarian Artists Award – 1200 BGN and a certificate.
The Hristo Tsokev Art Gallery Award – 1200 BGN and a certificate.
The second Hristo Tsokev Art Gallery Award – 1200 BGN and a certificate.
The Hristo Tsokev Art Gallery Award for young artists (under 35) – 1000 BGN and a certificate.
The Hristo Tsokev Art Gallery Award and the Union of Bulgarian Artists Award for young artists – the right to participate in a Plein Air Painting Event.
Other awards from sponsors of the event.
The Ministry of Culture provides only the award of 1200 BGN and a certificate, which bears the name of the institution.
IV. TERMS OF ENTRY
1. Artists from all over Bulgaria who have agreed to the terms and conditions can take part in the event.
2. The works are to be sent to the gallery’s address:

3. The artists are responsible for covering the shipping costs to and from the aforementioned address.
4. Each author can submit no more than two works.
5. The works submitted have to be original, to belong to the author and cannot have been submitted for other exhibitions.
6. (1) Only paintings are to be submitted. The technique and materials are up to the author. The works should not be larger than 200 cm at their longest side, frame included.
(2) The works should be in a presentable and appropriate for exhibition condition.
(3) On the back of each work the author should write their name, the name of the work, the year of creation and the technique used.
(4) The works should be sent accompanied by: an application form which is legibly filled out in print letters, labels for returning the works, information for the artist’s bank account and a receipt which shows that the fee has been paid.
(5) The entry fee is 30BGN and is to be paid at the Hristo Tsokev Art Gallery or through a bank transfer to the following account:

(6) Artists who haven’t paid the fee cannot take part in the exhibition.
7. Hristo Tsokev Art Gallery is responsible for the safety of the works once they have been received and will not be held accountable for any damage or losses which occurred during transportation.
8. The authors receive their works back on the address that they have provided or come to collect their works themselves up to a month after the closing of the exhibition.
9. Each participant in the Triennial will receive a free catalogue and a certificate for participation.
10. The full list of participants and reproductions of their works are uploaded to the website of Hristo Tsokev Art Gallery.
11. Hristo Tsokev Art Gallery has the right to reproduce the works which took part in the exhibition and to publish them in its publications.
V. DEADLINES
October 8th – deadline for receiving the works;
October 11th – adjudication of the works;
November 8th – opening of the exhibition;
December 31st – closing of the exhibition.
VI. ADDITIONAL DECREES
1. The National Triennial “BRIDGES” is a part of the National Cultural Calendar for the respective year and of the activities of Gabrovo Municipality.
2. Up-to-date information about the organization of the event and the results from each edition are published on the website of Hristo Tsokev Art Gallery.
3. The organizers are obliged to display the logo of the National “BRIDGES” Triennial and the names of the sponsors: the Ministry of Culture, Hristo Tsokev Art Gallery, Gabrovo Municipality the Bulgarian Artists Association on all advertisement and informational materials for the exhibition.
